CMU-Portugal Mobility Initiatives: “Visiting Professors and Researchers” Program and “Visiting Students” Program

The calls for applications for the CMU-Portugal Mobility Initiatives – “Visiting Professors and Researchers” Program and “Visiting Students” Program – are open between May 30 and June 17, 2025.
Launched under the CMU-Portugal Program , with the support of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), both initiatives will support visits to Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), in Pittsburgh, to be completed by December 31, 2025.
The CMU-Portugal Visiting Professors and Researchers Programme will support up to five fellows for a stay of between two weeks and two months, to collaborate in research, education and innovation in ICT with CMU colleagues, in order to learn about their culture and best practices. Applicants must be Portuguese citizens or foreigners with permanent residence in Portugal who hold a doctorate degree at the time of application and are affiliated with a Portuguese higher education institution or research laboratory. Since its inception, the CMU-Portugal Programme has supported 96 visits to CMU.
The CMU-Portugal Visiting Student Program will support up to seven Masters or Masters students who have obtained a degree in Portugal in the last five years in ICT-related fields, who will have the opportunity to conduct research in ICT at CMU for a period of between two weeks and two months. While at CMU, candidates will be mentored by renowned professors and researchers and will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the Carnegie Mellon culture. Visiting students must be Portuguese citizens or foreign citizens with permanent residence in Portugal. This initiative has already received 69 student visits to CMU.
On June 4th (3:00 pm in Lisbon / 10:00 am in Pittsburgh), the CMU-Portugal Coordination Office will hold an Online Information Session to clarify any doubts about these competitions.
